余醫生的診所名為「香港中西醫專科中心」，中西醫都包含其中。他打趣說以前仍在香港大學醫學院任教時，身邊有醫生朋友知道他曾修讀中醫，就問他往後用甚麼形式執業。
「我想到一個好方法，就是開一間西醫診所，為病人看完病之後，若病情需要，便跟病人說這種病看中醫效果會比較好，請病人看後舖的中醫診所；然後我就易容，轉身到中醫診症室，再為病人以中醫方法看病。」他說罷哈哈大笑。
事實上，余在開始私人執業時，用的是中醫理論的四氣五味方法，選用合適的西藥去醫治一般西醫治不好的病，特別是腸胃病和皮膚問題。到了開始用中藥時，就更明白用藥的原理為何，他當然會根據傳統醫術外，但就不會一味因循前人的做法。
「做醫生有時是見別人怎樣做，他就照着辦，那當然是最容易的，但就沒有突破。」而他一直是努力要追求突破的人。
